Homework #3: MISB-500-01 Fall 2000

50 points, due 10/5/2000 by classtime.

You are responsible for coordinating the visit of a prospective employee for your company. The candidate must be scheduled to visit 8 different managers to see which department could best utilize the candidate's skills. Each meeting should last for one-half hour, with a break at noon for a one-hour lunch with you and the company president. The meetings should start at 10:00 a.m. on October 6th. You will decide on the order of the interviews.

Using Microsoft Word's Mail Merge feature, create "customized" printed memos to each department manager, detailing when he/she is scheduled to meet with the candidate. The memo should also list:

  1. who the next manager to visit is (so that each manager can walk the candidate to the next appointment), as well as where the next manager is,
  2. how long his/her interview is supposed to last,
  3. your name and contact information in case of a problem,
  4. and a one-paragraph summary of information about the candidate (be inventive, but not crass).

Include any other details that you deem important.

Create the memo, including the proper merge fields, as well as a separate data source. Create the data source in a MS Word table. The managers, their respective departments, and their office numbers are:

Manager Department Office
Ms. Pat Lowry President 401
Mr. Bob Brown Purchasing 303
Ms. Rita Rutledge Accounting 317
Ms. Susan Cooke Human Resources 201
Mr. Leroy Schneider Operations 432
Ms. Kathy Norris IT 411
Mr. Carl Hoxsey Sales 225
Mr. Jim Painter Finance 324
Ms. Barbara Sloane Marketing 211

Send an email to booka@slu.edu with the Word file(s) attached by October 5th at classtime. Print out the eight memos, as well as the data source table, and turn them in at classtime on October 5th.
